I am trying Keppra for the first time as I am newly diagnosed with seizures and not depression.

I had taken Depakote years ago for "depression" and it left me kind of apathetic.
I now read some people take Depakote for seizures... are there differences in side effects and what might they be?

Thank You for any help.

Depakote was first manufactured for seizures....it is a pretty old drug and has only been used for migraines and depression fairly recently.

My dd was on depakote for about 3 years, and her side effects were hair loss, tremor, and gastritis.

She is on Keppra now (after being on lamictal and then off meds for 18months), and really only talks about feeling sleepy or tired with Keppra....really no other side effects that she can point to.

mom to 19y daughter-TLE partial seizures since '98. Keppra, folic acid, elavil. Off to college!!

God.... the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can p*a*s*s on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.
