Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware

Programs

The Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware offers a number of programs for persons with epilepsy, their families and the public.

Individual Support

We provide individuals and families with information and support to help them understand and cope with epilepsy.

Support Groups

We provide a forum for people with epilepsy to discuss their concerns, share support and encouragement and be informed about legislation, research and resources.  Groups meet in New Castle County once a month. Please call for details.

Public Awareness Program

This program has as its main goal to lessen, and to ultimately eliminate, the stigma added to both the word and the disorder --  Epilepsy. This service includes educational presentations to both small and large groups. Our three major programs are outlined below.

Seizure Recognition and Management Program   We continue to educate school faculties, day care teachers and education students throughout the State about the different forms of epilepsy.

Seizure Recognition and Managment For Teens  We partner with Health teachers in high schools across the State to educate most teens, eliminating stigma for teens with the disorder.

Take Another Look  We are on the curriculum of the three police academies to educate officers about different seizure types and prevent false arrests.

Film Loan Library and Educational Materials

A variety of tapes and DVD's are available for loan to schools, clubs, organizations and individuals interested in epilepsy.  An assortment of books, manuals and pamphlets are also available from this library.

Emergency Funding of Medication

There are limited funds available to patients with epilepsy who encounter emergency situations and are unable to afford the total cost of their medication.
