Information, Referral & Social Services
Services Provided by the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana:
- Provide comprehensive epilepsy educational information to individuals and their families when newly diagnosed, or for those who want additional information of a variety of requested topic matters.
- Provide Seizure Awareness & First Aid training and education to individuals and families, as well as employers, organizations, civic groups, schools, etc.
- Offer quarterly adult support groups in Louisville and Owensboro, and monthly in Lexington.
- Offer a youth support and activity group held each month in Louisville (funded by Kosair Charities).
- Provide case management, crisis intervention, and consultation to individuals with epilepsy and their families.
- Advocate when a client's (whether adult or child) medical, educational (IEP, 504), or occupational needs and rights are in question. Or, field overall questions in any of these areas.
- Explore potential eligibility for various public an private social service assistance programs, and then refer clients and their families to: prescription assistance programs, legal services, utility assistance, landlord/tenant assistance, employment programs, SSI/SSDI, food stamps, Medicare/Medicaid/other health insurance options, neuropsychological evaluations, and any other service(s) needed.
- ADA resource for persons affected by epilepsy or a seizure disorder - i.e. determine appropriate accommodations for students and employees with disabilities, advise clients of their rights and responsibilities under the ADA, Rehabilitation Act, IDEA, Fair Housing Act, etc.
