Camp Wee Kan Tu: A Camp for Champs
Our camp was founded in 1998 by a professional staff dedicated to working with children
and adults with epilepsy in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. For twelve years, Camp Wee Kan Tu
was hosted by Crossroads for Kids at Camp Wing in Duxbury, MA. In 2010 our affiliate expanded our services
to include New Hampshire and Maine.
To better serve families with children from all four states, Camp Wee Kan Tu relocated to a new host camp:
the Frank A. Day Camp in East Brookfield, MA.
Since 1916, the West Suburban YMCA has owned and operated Camp Frank A. Day on the picturesque shores
of Lake Quacumquasit. Over 1000 feet of sandy shoreline set against 52 sprawling acres of natural woodland,
makes Camp Day one of New England's finest resident camp facilities. The Y recently invested $750,000 in new cabins,
bath houses and a 40 foot climbing tower.

Children are welcomed to a warm, safe environment with peers who are able to share some
of the same life experiences related to
having epilepsy. Each year, more and more children with epilepsy
need a safe environment where
they can be themselves.

The camp offers children and teenagers with epilepsy, ages 8 - 17 an overnight program full of traditional
camp fun and adventure, while providing them with the personal and medical supervision that gives parents peace of mind.
The camp experience strives to enhance a child's self-esteem, confidence, and independence by encouraging
social relationships, respect,
understanding and a sense of community.

Our camp is staffed with a cooperative team of counselors from our host camp, along with
our own volunteers from the medical, social service and epilepsy community. All staff both Y and Foundation volunteers, receives specialized training in
seizure recognition, first aid,
and the special needs of children with epilepsy. Our staff's dedication, experience and enthusiasm
make them ideal role models for the
children we serve.
